A Compassionate Support Network for Grieving Families

Healing After a Loss by Overdose emerged in January 2024 as a lifeline for families in central California facing the intense impact of drug overdose or death by substance use. Recognizing the escalating occurrence of drug overdoses in the Central Valley, HALO is positioned to be a beacon of solace. The program prioritizes the emotional well-being of those who have lost someone to a substance-related death, offering a compassionate space for shared experiences and providing valuable tools to navigate the complexities of grief. By fostering a supportive community, HALO endeavors to provide a safe space to guide individuals through the healing process, offering support, compassion, and resources to navigate the difficult journey of grief.

The origin of the HALO program

Jim and Lynn Horton created the HALO Program at Hinds LifeCare to honor their son Zachary, whose death from overdose changed their lives forever. In their deepest grief, they chose to build a space where other families could find understanding, connection, and hope. Their journey has turned loss into purpose, and their commitment continues to guide HALO as a place of support for anyone navigating the impact of substance use and overdose. This video shares their path, their courage, and the heart behind the program they brought to life.
