One of the most meaningful moments from this year’s From Darkness to Light Gala was recognizing longtime volunteer, Jack Cromwell, with the Dick & Sandy Gallagher Award. The award honors a first responder or community member who has made a significant impact in supporting suicide loss survivors and advancing the mission of Fresno Survivors of Suicide Loss (SOSL). A retired first responder and Air Force veteran, Jack is also a survivor of suicide loss. Through his volunteer work with SOSL, he brings personal experience, compassion, and a continued commitment to individuals and families navigating the loss of a loved one to suicide.
As Maria Torres, SOSL Program Coordinator, shared while presenting the award, “There are some people who wear a uniform because it is their profession, and there are others who carry the meaning of that uniform long after they have taken it off.” Jack continues to show what that kind of service looks like. Congratulations, Jack, and thank you for continuing to answer the call.
